World Egg Day Celebrations 2021
Last year’s World Egg Day took place on Friday 8 October and marked the 25th anniversary of the event. The 2021 celebration centred around the brilliant versatility of the egg and its multitude of benefits to people at every stage of life.
Over 100 countries across the globe celebrated World Egg Day on social media, using #WorldEggDay! The global egg industry and egg fans from the USA to New Zealand shared their EGG-ceptional events to honour the humble egg. The hashtag #WorldEggDay achieved a reach of over 180 million and more than 854,000 interactions!

Australia
Australian Eggs launched a multi-media campaign to encourage the nation to celebrate the egg! Their World Egg Day ‘Eggventures at Home’ initiative in partnership with Deliveroo saw the creation of meal kits for bespoke egg dishes, developed by popular restaurants in four cities across Australia. They also had ‘cook along with the chef’ videos and Deliveroo discounts on Egg Dishes. Australian Eggs also released a World Egg Day cook book, which is freely available to download from their website.
Sunny Queen organised a range of internal and external activities. They highlighted three international egg recipes inspired by three of their team members. Because of travel restrictions, Sunny Queen hoped to help the team and Australians travel through the world of food. The recipe launch featured a media release and social media campaign.

Austria
In Austria, ZAG ran a social media campaign, alongside a TV report on individual egg labelling and a press release with egg facts. They also advertised eggs and egg products in the trade media.

Brazil
Brazil celebrated World Egg Day with a week of activities, including donations of thousands of eggs, activity books and World Egg Day T-shirts to regional charities. They also sent a range of promotional World Egg Day materials to directors, employees, associates, the press, consumers and sponsors. After the success of their first Egg Music Festival in 2020, ASGAV once again saw students from universities and other institutions submit videos of egg-themed performances. They also released a 3D video of Egg Fitness Week, where the ‘Egg Guys’ provided tips on exercise and sports every day of the week. On World Egg Day itself, ASGAV/Ovos RS released special Spanish recipe videos on social media and launched ‘The Egg Gallery of Famous People’, a special gallery of everyone who played a part in the activities for the week up to World Egg Day.

Canada
In recognition of World Egg Day, Egg Farmers of Canada launched media and social media campaigns with five chef ambassadors and culinary influencers who encouraged Canadians to take their taste buds on a journey, showcasing several new globally-inspired egg recipes. They also took the opportunity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of #WorldEggDay and spotlight the amazing champions who work together to deliver fresh, high-quality food every day, using social content and videos to express gratitude for their work.
Members of Manitoba Egg Farmers scrambled on Friday morning to give out over 500 free egg sandwiches and coffees in Winnipeg’s Exchange District. A local radio station also did a live remote on location from 7:30am till 10:30am that morning, incorporating interviews with farmers and the agriculture minister.

China
For China’s World Egg Day celebrations, LyJa Media planned a Food Creative Contest for 8 October, with a science and technology conference on October 9 in Shanghai.
The Wonderful Egg Alliance (WEA) worked with the Shanghai Society of Food Science to hold an Egg Food Innovative Competition, with contestants from over 10 Shanghai universities.

Croatia
For World Egg Day in Croatia 2021, Hartmann organised a theatre festival for children for the 6th year in a row, in cooperation with the local theatre, Oberon. The festival, entitled ‘The Egg’, started on 8 October and lasted for 3 days. During the event, four shows took place for children from kindergarten to high school age. The last day of the festival was reserved for a Danish show “Alice in Wonderland” by Asterions’s House. The award for the best theatre performance was an egg sculpture made from Hartmann trays by a Croatian artist, Iris Lobaš Kukavičić. Egg was the main symbol of the festival, with the idea of promoting the egg as a healthy food and also promoting moulded fibre, ecologiocal material used for Hatmann products. Hartmann are extremely proud of this unique celebration because, in recent years, it has resulted in a great response from the children and all the shows were fully attended. They believe it is important for young generations to explore theatre and learn about the importance of healthy food from early age.

Denmark
For World Egg Day in Denmark, Sanovo Technology created and shared a special movie celebrating the egg on their social media platforms.

Hungary
Baromfi Termék Tanács in Hungary celebrated World Egg Day this year with a conference for producers, featuring speaker Nan-Dirk Mulder of Rabobank. They also organised a multi-media campaign to promote egg consumption, which included radio spots and public place posters with engaging nutritional facts.

India
For 2021’s World Egg Day celebrations in India, Srinivasa Farms launched a multi-media campaign, with content on social media as well as local radio channels, TV networks and the popular daily newspaper. The aim of their campaign was to bring about excitement for the event, share fun facts and spread awareness of the importance of eggs. Celebrity health and fitness videos garnered substantial engagement and a 30km Cycle rally in Hyderabad city created widespread awareness. Furthermore, IEC Chairman, Suresh Chitturi led an insightful live webinar connecting with health experts Dr. Lakshmi Lavanya and Dr. Anvesh Reddy, which concluded with a fun-filled Egg Quiz.
The State Poultry Training Institute in Ajmer celebrated World Egg Day, alongside veterinarians of the Animal Husbandry Department and private sector, and dealers and representatives of poultry medicines. This involved publication of stickers and pamphlets about the nutritional benefits of the egg, and also caps with ‘I love eggs’ printed on them. On World Egg Day, they served delicious sweet HALUWA of eggs to participants and, later in the evening, delivered an online presentation on eggs to the officers of the Rajasthan Animal Husbandry Department.
Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science (LCVSc) hosted a special three-day-long programme along with workshop from 6 to 8 October. A variety of discussions were held by students and teaching faculty in relation to the importance of eggs in human health, and myths and facts about egg consumption. Additionally, online slogan writing competitions on eggs and egg art competitions were carried out.
To mark the 25th anniversary of World Egg Day, ABTL Enzymes distributed eggs among the community and spread awareness of the value of eggs by giving out pamphlets to children.

Indonesia
For World Egg Day 2021 in Indonesia, Phibro distributed 1 ton of eggs to a number of social foundations through the Bogor Regency Government Social Service and raised public awareness of the importance of animal protein for health.
The National Poultry Farmer Association (Pinsar), together with Infovet Magazine organised special World Egg Day webinars and virtual training sessions, covering human nutrition and biosecurity. They also celebrated with a chicken and egg education talkshow on well-known radio and YouTube channels and donated chicken and eggs to people who need additional nutrition in the local area.

Ireland
The Irish Egg Association in partnership with Bord Bia (Irish Food Board) focused on nutrition and protein as their theme for World Egg Day 2021. They worked with ambassadors including the sports-orientated Heffernan family from County Cork and their friend, champion runner Derval O’Rourke, to present eggs as an ideal food for athletes and overall health. Interviews with the ambassadors on national tv and in the press took place, along with endorsements on their personal Instagram accounts through the campaign hashtag #CrackOn. In addition to these top sportspeople, this year also saw three of Ireland’s leading food ‘influencers’ outline some of the tastiest and most nutritious recipes for eggs.

Kenya
The Hatching Hope Kenya Project, a joint initiative founded by Cargill and Heifer International, celebrated this year’s World Egg Day, alongside its partners, with an event in a local school. Activities included; a nutrition talk about the health benefits of eggs, a mentorship talk, and presentation of poems that the school children had been preparing to commemorate this day with the support of their teachers. The project rounded-off the day by providing eggs to the children and eating them together.

Latvia
In Latvia, Balticovo’s egg-branded food truck made a return, distributing scrambled eggs to residents in Riga and nearby towns for the extended period of 2 days, on the 8 and 9 October. The food truck offered a large variety of egg dishes including Balticovo’s new products, Egg White Protein ice cream and Egg Melange Plombir ice cream. They also planned a laying hens and laid eggs exhibition in the main square in Riga, in collaboration with Latvian Small Animal Breeders Association. In addition, Balticovo encouraged schools and kindergartens around Latvia to join in a creative challenge, where students were asked to submit media of their choice to match the phrase ‘Greetings on World Egg Day’.

Mauritius
In Mauritius, Oeudor marked the 25th anniversary of the global event by collaborating with the Foodwise NGO to distribute more than 10,000 eggs to people in need. The exclusive ‘World Egg Day’ cartons donated to Foodwise were then redistributed to a number of NGOs working for the benefits of vulnerable and disadvantaged people. Eggs were also distributed to the public at different regions around the island, in front of partnered shops. Additionally, Oeudor ran a social media campaign with a giveaway contest.

Mexico
To celebrate World Egg Day in Mexico, the Instituto Nacional Avícola (INA) organised a webinar programme with expert speakers from across the country, which took place from 27 September to World Egg Day itself on 8 October. Following on from last year’s success, this was their second ever fully virtual event, and was streamed live via Facebook and Zoom. The activities aimed to highlight the nutritional, gastronomic and social qualities of the egg.

New Zealand
As part of New Zealand’s World Egg Day celebrations this year, NZ Egg Producers Federation ran a consumer promotion. Kiwis were attracted to enter to win a Limited Edition Kenwood Gold Mixer and 25 Consolation Prizes of The Perfect Egg Cookbook. Digital ads for the promotion ran across the key media channels and NZ Eggs social media channels from 4th – 17th October.

Nigeria
In Nigeria, the Poultry Association of Nigeria Ogun State (PANOG) generated awareness about the many health benefits of eggs. They visited schools for talks with students about the benefits of eggs to brain development and delivered fun egg games to keep them engaged! PANOG also visited health centres, orphanages, correctional centres and media houses to spread the word about the importance of eggs to wellbeing and overall health. During these visits, they distributed free eggs, with the aim of helping to improve egg consumption in Nigeria.
Funtuna eggs extended their celebration across the whole week to demonstrate the importance of eggs! They shared facts about eggs on social media and delivered a week of trivia questions on the radio, with daily discussions on the importance of eggs for people of all ages. In addition, they shared 25 facts about eggs, featuring their brand ambassador, Chef Fregz, who provided extraordinary egg recipes. Funtuna also distributed goodie bags containing eggs, powerbanks, t-shirts, recipe books, key holders and more to their communities.
Furthermore, the World Veterinary Poultry Association, Nigeria Bureau, in collaboration with Caesar & Jones Ltd, a veterinary consulting firm on poultry management, celebrated by donating crates of eggs to public schools in the community and Sunday School pupils at the local church. In their office facilities, they dedicated time to talk to clients and colleagues about the importance of incorporating eggs in their diets, as the most affordable source of quality protein.

Pakistan
For World Egg Day in Pakistan, the PMAS Arid Agriculture University of Rawalpindi hosted a range of competitions, including best egg dish, best egg carving and painting, and best egg related poster. The university also arranged an egg awareness walk as well as a seminar on ‘Egg Miracles in Health’ to help recognise the nutritional value of the egg.

Panama
The Asociación Nacional de Avicultores de Panamá (ANAVIP) and Comisión Nacional del Huevo (CONAHU) in Panama celebrated this year’s World Egg Day with a variety of online activities. This included live streamed recipes with Chef Rachel Pol via Instagram, recipes shared by renowned influencers, and an online hat competition. Young girls and boys throughout the country were encouraged to share videos on social media wearing a hat they have created, telling the audience why and how they made it. They were asked to include the hashtag #DaleLikeAlHuevo and tag @comisiondehuevos in order to enter. The competition closed on Wednesday 6 October, and the judges announced the winners the following day. The aim of this special celebration was to encourage the children of Panama to use their creative skills and recognise the importance of eggs to nutrition. ANAVIP also visited two local elementary schools with children between 4 and 9 years old, where they played games and distribute eggs alongside superhero mascot ‘Super Egg’.

Paraguay
The Department of Nutrition (DNN) of Nutrihuevos in Paraguay prepared a series of activities for the community to extend World Egg Day to #EggMonth (#MesDelHuevo). Their celebrations included promotions, raffles and games at points of sale throughout the month of October, providing rewards for consumers and egg fans and encouraging them to consume more eggs. Nutrihuevos aimed to open up the conversation about egg nutrition, by delivering a series of talks featuring prominent health professionals across their social networks. Topics included ‘Food and physical activity’; ‘Why the egg is a superfood’; and ‘How to enhance our defences by nurturing our intestine’. In addition, they offered free nutritional evaluations to those who visited the San Lorenzo Branch on 8 October.

Philippines
To celebrate World Egg Day in the Philippines, Batangas Eggs united with Livestock Philippines to launch the #LODIAngItlog (#EggsAreSuperb) Campaign in support of Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Zero Hunger, local government units, members of the egg industry, various organisations, and associations that help support the health and food systems of the country. The #LODIAngItlog campaign aimed to promote the egg diet to fight protein malnutrition in the Philippines and strengthen the resistance of their people. They believe that they can achieve a healthy Philippines with eggs. Part of the #LODIAngItlog campaign was the use of effective platforms such as Facebook, Tiktok and Instagram to better explain their mission. Tiktok entries from egg producers, egg wholesalers and retailers, government partners, kids and teens were judged according to the criteria of the Egg Dance Challenge.

Poland
In Poland, Fermy Wozniak planned a collaborative media campaign with the Polskie Dzieci Org to help educate and support healthy diets in parents and their children, and advise schools on food best practices. They also shared valuable egg information on their website and SoMe channels and delivered educational activities in regional schools about the nutritional power of the egg. On top of this, they collaborated with retail chains to customise label packaging with the World Egg Day logo.

Portugal
To celebrate World Egg Day in Portugal, ANAPO (Associação Nacional dos Avicultores Produtores de Ovos) provided schools with an ‘Activation kit’ containing: a cover letter, a presentation to showcase to students, recipes with eggs, an animation movie ‘did you know?’, drawings to colour in, and a form to request the offer of an educational book entitled ‘O meu ovo?!’. Each teacher was then able to choose how best to use these resources, which were targeted at every preschool and primary school in Portugal. ANAPO also launched a social media campaign and press release to help get the word out about World Egg Day.

Romania
Toneli Holding celebrated World Egg Day in Romania with a week of radio contests with prizes, Facebook and Instagram competitions, and press announcements to help spread the word about this important event.

Russia
This year, the International Poultry Forum in Russia started celebrating World Egg Day on 7 October, with more than 300 participants attending ‘Poultry of Russia 2021’. This featured an evening programme with famous singers and a reception at the International Birds Forum, which was dedicated to World Egg Day. The programme included: tasting of finished products (smoked eggs, pickled eggs); a competition for making salads from boiled eggs (‘Russian’, ‘Herring under a fur coat’ and ‘Mimosa’); a ‘soft-boiled eggs’ competition; songs about eggs; and the presentation of diplomas for the Top 10 Producers.

South Africa
To celebrate World Egg Day, South Africa ran a media campaign covering both print and digital channels. This included a double page spread in Heita magazine, a free regional commuter advertorial, and a digitorial including two to three recipes, a banner and a social post in Food24, Africa’s largest online foodie community. In addition, there was a national television insert on a breakfast show on World Egg Day itself and a World Egg Day special of the ADSA newsletter was distributed to over 1,500 South Africa dieticians. EGGcellentFood on Facebook and Instagram ran a social media campaign during the week of World Egg Day to promote the value of the egg, and social media influencers shared videos on their Instagram pages to celebrate the special day.

Spain
The Instituto de Estudios del Huevo in Spain extended their celebrations to ‘World Egg Month’, with a media campaign circulating the benefits of the egg for eye health launched on 7 October. On 21 October, they celebrated 25 years of the Instituto de Estudios del Huevo and announced the winner of the yearly award in egg research. On 27 October, INPROVO presented their promotional campaign for the upcoming two years, with messages focused on families with children in year 1 and millennials in year 2.

United Kingdom
To celebrate World Egg Day, the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC) shared delicious egg dishes on 8 October, across @egg_recipes Instagram, which has 70k followers. Throughout the week, which was also British Egg Week, as well as sharing recipe posts on social media, they placed stories within the regional media based on consumer research around people’s favourite ways to enjoy eggs. BEIC also worked with comedian @GeorgeEgg to develop humorous egg-recipe-based-content to share on Instagram.

USA
To celebrate World Egg Day in the USA, Center Fresh Group served free, made-to-order omelettes, fruit, drinks and their trademark fried egg cookies to the local community, catering for around 750 people, from 7-9am on 8 October at Terrace View Event Center, Sioux County, Iowa.

Zimbabwe
Irvine’s Zimbabwe donated 6,000 eggs to Derbyshire Primary Schools in Waterfalls to celebrate World Egg Day, with each child receiving at least half a dozen eggs to take away and enjoy with their family.
International Celebrations:
Delacon
In honor of World Egg Day, the Green Egg Campaign was first introduced by Delacon Biotechnik GmbH during the government Nutrition Month in the Philippines in 2017. For the 5th year in a row, Delacon collaborated in Bangladesh with a local distributor to increase consumer awareness of eggs as a valuable source of protein to strengthen and support the local poultry layer industry. Due to the pandemic, Delacon decided to share the goodness of eggs with their distributor, sales team, and employees. Delacon also celebrated World Egg Day in collaboration with the Bethesda Children’s Village Social and Educational Center in Brazil by promoting awareness about the nutritional benefits associated with egg consumption to Latin American children.
DSM
After the success of last year’s Egg-citing ‘Egg Family’, DSM relaunched this campaign for 2021, sharing ‘nutritious adventures’ through storytelling and facts, with the aim of informing viewers about the egg’s major role in life. They also introduced a new, young member to the family for this year, named EggQuality.
Informa Markets
Informa Markets celebrated World Egg Day in Southeast Asia with their series of talks that discussed the vital role eggs play. The talks covered a range of topics from expert guest speakers, including regional egg market updates.
